Career Opportunities in USA

Being one of the largest economies in Europe, the USA has seen a significant decline in the unemployment rate. This reflects that studying in the USA for Indian students is an impeccable opportunity for them to build fulfilling careers in the country.

Part-Time Employment in the USA
As per the rules of the government, enrolled students are given an allowance to work for up to 20 hours a week during term time and full-time, 40 hours, during holidays or vacation time.

Employment in the USA After Graduating
To attract international students, the USA government has altered its pre-set study visa rules for international students. Based on the new set of rules, international students from various countries, including India, are eligible to stay back for up to 2 years after the completion of their study program. Before the introduction of these new rules, students that completed their studies in USA programs were allowed to stay back only for a maximum of 6 months. As a benefit to Indian students, the new visa rules apply to students who are enrolled in and are studying any subject at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. This new visa requires a student to make a new application, which compromises payments of visa and health surcharge.

USA Student Visa

The USA student visa is known as the F1 visa (for Long Term studies) or M1/J1 visa(vocations studies or exchange programs).

Before applying for a visa, the student needs to have an I-20 from a recognized US university and an active SEVIS number.

The student visa is issued over a face of face interview at the USA counselor office in their country.

Any student with a valid I-20 can schedule their interview at their local counselor’s office. The visa process typically takes 2 days with the Biometric appointment on the 1st day and the main visa interview on the 2nd day. Most of the decisions are taken on the spot, however, few cases which need further information can take anything between 1 week to 1 month.

Although the F1 study permit is given for 5 years the student will need to maintain their SEVIS status to keep their visa valid.
